WELCOME TO THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS MEDIA CENTER!

The A.S. Media Center is a fully student-funded creative space available to UCSB undergraduate and graduate students (faculty & staff click here for media support). We are located in Building 434 – Room 141 (We’re just across the bike path from Storke Tower and South Hall. Our neighbors are VMS and UCSB Sustainability). The Media Center is equipped to help you with everything from creating a simple flyer to producing a documentary about something that makes you passionate.

The Center has tools for your creative process, including still and video cameras, computers, and a space to meet and view your finished work. Equipment can be checked out and the center’s computers come equipped with the software you need to edit both image and audio-based projects. We also have a studio space with lights and backdrops you can reserve. We’ll help you with the setup and train you to do it yourself.

EQUIPMENT CHECK-OUT/CHECK-IN

M-F 9-4 (aside from staffing shortages).
The Media Center space is open Monday – Friday for study and computer use
Special arrangements may be possible. Contact: media.center@as.ucsb.edu.

LATE RETURN POLICY

  • Because of the high demand for equipment and that late returns often irreparably inconvenience your fellow students’ productions, we treat late returns very seriously. Notify the A.S. Media Center by emailing media.center@as.ucsb.edu or calling 805-893-5422 as soon as possible if you cannot return your equipment on time. Deadlines for equipment return can be extended but only when the request does not affect the scheduling needs of another student. Deadline extensions must be requested with a minimum of two hours ahead of the scheduled return time.
  • Regardless of notification, a student returning late may have their checkout privileges temporarily suspended at the discretion of a staff member. Subsequent late returns may result in long-term loss of checkout privileges up to and including the remainder of the quarter or permanently if staff deem it necessary. Failure to contact the A.S. Media Center about late equipment will result in a suspension of rental privileges for two weeks and the acquisition of a late fee of $2/hour capped at $50.

For more information about the equipment loan program, click the Gear tab on this page.

“The AS Media Center is an amazing support every step of the way of the creative process. It’s a collaborative, dynamic space, and everyone involved is so committed to enabling students to create media. As a film major, it’s exciting to see a space on campus where I can get the tools and support to experiment with different forms of media, pursue new projects, and get creative. It’s a friendly and extremely helpful center, and I’m so glad to be involved in it.” Leah Bleich, Film Studies and UCSB graduate. Check out her short film Beelievers!
